The simplest and most perfect of forms, the circle, the two-dimensional representation of the sphere, seen in the sun disk and the full moon, is the expression of unity, the Monad, the undivided ‘one’. Paraphrasing Empedocles (490-430 BC) we could say: the universe is a circle of which the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere. The circle is also the symbol of infinity, because it has no beginning and no end. In a philosophical sense, the circle represents a completeness which encompasses all space and time.
